About the role

As a Senior Data Scientist for Wandsworth and Richmond Councils, you will define, manage and deliver data science projects, play an active role in implementing our data science strategy and action plan. data and analytics, and help advance the data maturity of Richmond and Wandsworth councils. .   • We are still in the early stages of adopting data science. The incumbent will lead data projects and drive colleagues to adopt data and analytics to provide to residents. Plan, manage and deliver complex data science projects, including negotiation scope and outcomes, data access, timelines, etc.
  • Develop data products using expert understanding of data science techniques to solve new and unique business problems
  • Lead and inspire the adoption of data management best practices, analytics tools and data quality improvement
  • Work closely with IT, data engineers and architects, data scientists and others to resolve data quality and data access issues, actively contribute to platform development and maintenance -data form, etc.
  • Promote and drive the development and adoption of predictive analytics.
  • Support other data scientists, within the team and from other areas, and data science apprentices through tailored training, mentorship and supervision projects.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of data science (especially within local communities)
  • Build and grow relationships within and outside organizations to support the achievement of team goals, data acquisition, and identify areas where data science can drive improvements

About the team

The role will be based within the company’s Insight and Analytics team, which includes data scientists, intelligence analysts, analyst support officers and a data project manager.

The team’s vision is to enable Board leaders and colleagues to make informed decisions and implement transformative and innovative ways of working by providing insightful analytics and innovative data solutions to deliver high quality services to residents.

Ideal candidate

  • Strong quantitative background, proficiency at the intersection of analytics, data science and data engineering
  • Passion for advancing the use of data and data science skills and techniques by identifying and removing barriers, building partnerships, and inspiring adoption by demystifying complex concepts
  • Skilled coder with advanced proficiency in using R and/or Python to manipulate and transform data and perform advanced analytics and data science tasks
  • Accomplishment of the implementation of machine learning and prediction algorithms to create, validate and evaluate interpretable models, answer complex questions and provide better understanding of services
  • Competent design and development of scalable and repeatable data pipelines in the cloud
  • IaaS/PaaS environments, providing automation of data model processes according to agreed standards
  • Excellent communicator and able to explain results to non-technical audiences through reports, presentations, dashboards and data visualizations.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team to complete complex tasks
  • Experience leading the development of data-driven solutions, co-designed with key stakeholders, through understanding the business
  • Strong prioritization, time management and project management skills, able to assess, negotiate and deliver complex analytical projects
  • 2-4 years of experience as a data scientist or similar advanced analytics role
