His experience in branding, visual design and account management guides his conscious yet competitive approach. In this article, Eglante explains the most popular writing skills.
“We surveyed hundreds of HR professionals and found that these writing skills are the most sought after when building your resume.” said Eglante Rosser. “With the number of applicants for high-paying jobs increasing dramatically, candidates need to stand out from their competitors to make it to the initial interview.”
The narration is normally presented in chronological order (through time). However, a good story contains more than just a list of events in the order in which they happened. Storytelling develops characters, describes a setting, entertains through conflict, and ultimately resolution. You don’t just throw your story on the page, you need to have a story point.
The exposition is explanatory writing, presented with clarity and credibility, often relying on a source of factual information, citing authorities who have good credentials or who are experts in the subject. The meaning is in the world, not in the dictionary. Bring the world into your story and use it to define your terms.
Descriptive paragraphs should avoid saying something categorically. Adopt a strategy that turns your description into a story: go from far to near, left to right, old to new, or some other natural flow. Try to drop a dramatic reveal along the way, like watching a movie unfold.
Comparisons can be made easier by drawing a ‘T-chart’ on a blank sheet of paper, to ensure you have enough to compare and contrast. List the two items being compared at the top, and all the differences and similarities you can think of will be compared, on the left and right sides of your page.
Persuasion is the art of letting people decide. It takes more than your opinion or personal belief. You need to provide the reader with information, analysis, and context, so they can form their own opinions, make judgments, and perhaps take action.
