We have a fantastic job opportunity for a PR Account Manager at a Johannesburg-based strategic communications agency. The agency offers three main service offerings: strategy, investor relations and branding. Their clients are private and listed companies primarily in the mining, renewable energy, oil and gas, IT/technology, real estate and financial services sectors. This role calls for someone who has previous experience working in a PR agency on mining clients or internally at a mine.

This exciting position is responsible for developing external and internal communication strategies for clients and managing the implementation of the strategies. This includes writing press releases and internal communications content, coordinating internal platform strategies, executing and managing events (including virtual events), developing internal and external campaigns to drive engagement (including social media campaigns) as well as customer liaison.

We are looking for someone who is fluent in English and French, with at least 8 years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, internal communications, branding and digital/social media. The ideal candidate must have excellent writing skills. Responsibilities

  • Develop strong relationships with a portfolio of clients, including the management team, and maintain their trust and respect
  • Manage and develop client accounts as primary contact; anticipate potential problems, design solutions and communicate with the customer. Always look for ways to increase customer satisfaction
  • Lead the development of effective external and internal communications strategies and programs that support client objectives
  • Write and develop content for client communication needs
  • Manage and coordinate clients’ internal and external digital platforms, as appropriate
  • Run and manage events, including virtual events and engagement campaigns
  • Provide analysis reports on internal communication surveys, social media analysis, media coverage reports and other data sources.
  • Coordinate with designers and any other service providers as required.

Requirements
The successful candidate must have/be:

  • Bachelor’s degree (essential) or higher degree in communications, public relations or media.
  • Masters (desirable)
  • Experience in the mining sector within a public relations agency or internally at a mine (this is not negotiable)
  • +8 years of experience in public relations and communication
  • +5 years in agency
  • Fluency in English and French: You must have excellent written and spoken English and French (this is non-negotiable)
  • Writing skills: excellent spelling, grammar and proofreading skills, as well as a creative flair to produce engaging texts
  • Presentation skills: From communicating ideas to your team to presenting stories to the client, you need to organize information in a succinct and interesting way to capture their attention.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: Whether it’s over the phone, email, or in person, communication is all about people. You must therefore be approachable, friendly and empathetic, and be able to build relationships with people at different levels within the agency, with clients and with different stakeholders.
  • Respect for time: You will often work under tight deadlines and you will respond to the demands and pressures of your team and your clients. So you need to be able to work quickly and efficiently, without compromising on quality.
  • Resilience: You must be confident enough to take the phone with the client’s senior management and resilient enough to handle criticism and rejection.
  • A positive attitude, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and a “can do” approach.
