The SFI research center for Insight data analysis is investing €350,000 in new collaborations with IUTs and new Technological Universities.

Projects were selected on the basis of scientific excellence and gender balance, among other criteria, and cover a range of areas, including energy efficiency planning for industry, lifestyle predictors for dementia and safe AI for medical devices.

Seven new projects are to be rewarded, involving 20 additional new researchers. The new research cohort is 50/50 male/female. The researchers are drawn from Dublin University of Technology (TU Dublin), Munster University of Technology (MTU), Atlantic University of Technology (ATU) and Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT) ).

The new project collaborations were identified following an open call for proposals, which were independently assessed by a joint team of senior experts from different HEIs and disciplines.

“This is an exciting new development for Insight,” said CEO Professor Noel O’Connor. “We have the opportunity to form research synergies with the agile and dynamic network of Technological Universities. The rigorous selection process ensures that each project passes the high bar of scientific excellence and draws from the widest possible pool of talent, with gender balance being a priority. Ireland is ambitious – we are developing a world-class research body that will drive projects to transform society, health, technology and industry for the better. That’s how we do it.”
