US-funded project calls for ‘single market’ for African research data

The Data Corridor would circumvent data sharing issues such as complex privacy laws

An African ‘corridor’ for research data has been proposed by a US-funded research program as a remedy to the challenges scientists on the continent face when sharing data among themselves and beyond.

The idea is being developed by the legal working group of the Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa (DS-I Africa) program, which is funded by the US National Institutes of Health.
