Data scientists are the no. 1 hottest job in America for 2019, according to a Thursday report from LinkedIn. It’s no surprise: Data scientists have topped Glassdoor’s list of America’s best jobs for three years, with professionals in the field reporting high demand, high salaries and high job satisfaction. work.

LinkedIn reviewed data from millions of member profiles, job postings, and salaries, ranking roles based on the following five weighted factors: salary, career advancement, number of U.S. job postings, year-over-year growth in job postings and widespread regional availability. The list shows the jobs that had the highest combined score for these five factors.

Data scientists have a median base salary of $130,000 and have seen 56% more job openings this year than last, according to the report. There are now over 4,000 data science job openings nationwide. The role changed to no. 1 of no. 9 on last year’s list.

According to Glassdoor, the skills most frequently mentioned by employers in data science job postings are Python, R, and SQL. Nine out of ten jobs reviewed require at least one of these skills, which are closely related. Other skills important to the role are data mining, data analysis and machine learning, LinkedIn found. The best data science careers include basic data scientists, researchers, and big data specialists.
